Iceland – Land of Fire and Ice

Sarah and her family spent 10 days in Iceland this past August. They spent a few days in Reykjavik, the capital, to get oriented and take a whale watching boat trip. They then headed out to explore the land. They hiked to many waterfalls, climbed on a glacier and into an ice cave, paddled kayaks at the foot of a glacier around the ice burgs that had recently calved. They saw seals, puffins, and lots of sheep grazing everywhere.
A Solo Bikepacking Trip from Albion to New Orleans

This session describes a 31-day solo, unsupported bicycle journey from Albion to New Orleans that passed through parts of Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois (one night), Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Mark Lelle set out from Albion on September 20, 2023, and arrived in New Orleans on October 20, staying at a combination of campgrounds and motels along the way. Mark will talk about navigating the route, what he brought along, what he saw along the way and who he met, and the challenges and joys of being out on the open road on a bicycle.
Teaching in Thailand

Staci decided that she had never lived in another country and was determined to do so. She started with Italy and discovered that you had to be an EU passport holder to get a job in Europe. So, she considered Asia and received job offers from several Asian countries, finally deciding on Thailand. She had never even visited so she packed her bags and took the job. In one month, she arrived in Thailand to start teaching.
One Tortilla at a Time: Partnering with Rural Women and Families in Guatemala

Tom will share images and insights from his trips to rural Guatemala over the past decade. The focus of his engagement has been on improving health and building bridges with indigenous families and communities in the mountainous central part of the country.
